Red mist seemed to linger in the air over the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort last week.
Adam Hadwin’s tantrum on the ninth hole had hilarious consequences when he slammed his club into the ground – and set off a sprinkler.
That was after three-time PGA Tour winner Patton Kizzire withdrew from the event following a remarkable head loss on the par-3 16th hole, the site of his NFL-style putter punt.
The American missed a five-footer for par and subsequently retired from the event due to a back injury.
Now, though, he’s reflected on the incident and posted a video on Instagram apologising for his ‘unacceptable’ behaviour at the Valspar Championship.

“I just wanted to address the situation at the Valspar Championship last week,” said the world No.134. “I wasn’t feeling well, and I certainly lost my cool.
“It wasn’t my putter’s fault; I just lost my cool and it’s unacceptable. I’m looking forward to being a better version of myself and I appreciate you guys understanding.”
As you’d expect, the club was no longer usable, but the on-course commentary team saw the funny side.
On the Golf Channel broadcast, Gary Koch said: “Auditioning maybe for his NFL career?”
Analyst Brad Faxon added: “That was about a 20-yard – that would have been a field goal. The extra point.”
Social media did its thing immediately, with golf fans offering a variety of takes on the incident.

The most interesting, however, came from 1989 Open Champion Mark Calcavecchia, who knows a thing or two about losing the head.
Despite avoiding punishment himself in the past, he was adamant Kizzire would face some form of consequence.
“He’ll get fined,” Calcavecchia wrote on X. “Then he’ll appeal claiming faulty putter and bad green. Or somebody was heckling him. I know this stuff. 19 fines myself and got outta several.”
