Xander Schauffele wasn’t the only American lifting silverware on Sunday.
In fact, the 30-year-old was joined by a compatriot in winning a second title of the season.
As Schauffele swept past the field to claim the Claret Jug at Royal Troon, a PGA Tour rookie was deep into the final round and set to become the fifth player to win multiple times this season.
Not only that, but the PGA Tour now has its first player to win on the circuit as an amateur and a professional in the same campaign.

The man behind the feat: a 20-year-old Nick Dunlap.
He was a sophomore at the University of Alabama until January, when he became the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991.
But Dunlap has now followed up his incredible triumph at the American Express with glory in the Barracuda Championship at Tahoe Mountain Club.
“It’s kind of neat,” Dunlap said of the historic achievement. “I never thought that I would have my name next to that, but it’s definitely an honor.
“It’s been a little tough after AmEx. You kind of lose a little bit of confidence and wonder if you can do it again.
“But I truly have the greatest team and they support me, they believe in me, they push me, and they’re the reason that I’m here.”

Dunlap joins Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Robert MacIntyre as the only players to win at least two events in 2024.
By coming out of the modified stableford format on top, Dunlap earned 300 FedEx Cup points, the $720,000 winner’s prize and a hike to number 41 in the world rankings.
He said there were similarities between the two successes.
“Oh, they’re the same [the nerves]. “Yeah, you know, hands shaking, it’s the greatest feeling in the world.
“For me, that’s what I live for, that’s what I practice for. I was telling Hunter, we got done not knowing if it was enough, but just saying that was a lot of fun to be in that kind of moment and I love it.”
