Scottie Scheffler has yet to reveal what he’s putting on the menu for the Masters’ Champions Dinner next month but don’t be surprised if he decides to serve Phil Mickelson a big helping of cold shoulder.

Six-time major champ Mickelson – a winner of the Green Jacket in 2004, 2006 and 2010 – has made a bold claim about the world No.1 which is bound to come up in conversation at Augusta National.

According to the 54-year-old left-hander, Scheffler WON’T add to his wins haul between now and the Ryder Cup in September.

Mickelson made the prediction on X (formerly Twitter). He was responding after another Masters champ, Trevor Immelman, replied to his earlier observation that fellow LIV man Joaquin Niemann is the true No.1 player in the world right now.

After Immelman described that as a ‘hot take’, Mickelson hit back to say: “Here’s a hot take Does Scottie win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don’t think so.”

He didn’t elaborate as to why but, after the replies started to flood in, he posted again to say: “Lighten up everyone. Just having a little fun.”

Immelman replied: “Phil… this is not just hot, it’s scalding! I do think Scottie wins before the RC. Let’s all keep the receipt on this and revisit throughout the season…”

Assuming he’s being serious, what makes Mickelson’s claim so extraordinary is when you consider that Scheffler won seven times on the PGA Tour in 2024, including The PLAYERS Championship and The Masters. He also claimed Olympic gold for the USA in Paris last August.

His start to 2025 was delayed by a freak accident sustained making dinner for his family on Christmas Day and, though he has yet to life any silverware this season, his form has still been pretty impressive, with two top-10s from his four starts going into this week’s PLAYERS at TPC Sawgrass.

Mickelson, meantime, is a man finding some of his best form since he joined LIV in the summer of 2022.

He finished T19 in LIV Singapore, hot on the heels of a third-place finish in Hong Kong a week ago.
