A prestigious golf club in Lancashire is preparing to re-open all 18 holes to visitors after a monumental course upgrade.

Pleasington Golf Club, widely regarded as one of the best heathland courses in the north of England, has undergone a five-year renovation whilst continuing to operate for members.

The renovation has been carried out by Creative Golf Design’s Ken Moodie.

But now visitors will now get to see extensive changes on tees, greens and bunkers from April 10 with the £1million project finally complete.

Design tweaks have been made to make the course more playable for higher handicap golfers, as well as more challenging in some areas for elite players off the back tees.

Pleasington say that the course will also have slicker greens with enhanced drainage and resistance to disease.

The General Manager at Pleasington Mark Bleasdale said: “The course has undergone a remarkable transformation and is looking sensational and playing magnificently.

“We’ve enhanced every aspect of the playing experience from tee to green, including the reshaping of every bunker. We look forward to welcoming back visitors from across the North West and further afield, including the many golf travellers who stop off on their way to and from Scotland.”

The popular Pleasington layout is located between Preston and Blackburn, around 40 minutes away from revered Open Championship venues Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham.

This heathland track very much has its own pedigree though, as a 12-time qualifying venue for golf’s oldest major.

The course, which is £75 to play in the height of summer, enjoys views of the Fylde Coast, Lakes and the Pennines. The full adult seven-day membership rate is £1,623 per year.
