One of Scotland’s most prestigious golf resorts is facing an uncertain future after falling into administration.
The Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, located on the banks of the River Clyde close to Glasgow Airport, has appointed EY-Parthenon’s Turnaround and Restructuring Strategy as joint administrators as it looks to find a buyer.
It is understood that more than 100 jobs are now at risk.

Previously the site of the Erskine Hospital, Mar Hall has operated as a luxury hotel since 2004 and has played host to high-profile guests including Beyoncé, Harry Styles and George Clooney, as well as Kylie Minogue and the late Whitney Houston.
In 2010, a new 18-hole championship golf course, designed by acclaimed architect Dave Thomas, opened on the grounds. Offering spectacular views of the River Clyde and the Kilpatrick Hills beyond, the Earl of Mar course quickly became popular with locals and visitors alike.
However, it has failed to attract the big-name tournaments that many anticipated it would.
A statement on Mar Hall’s website reads: “On 22 August 2023, Andrew Dolliver, Kris Aspin and Joseph Luke Charleton, of EY-Parthenon’s Turnaround and Restructuring Strategy team were appointed as Joint Administrators of Mar Estates Limited, trading as Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort.
“Experienced hotel operators Michels & Taylor have been instructed to support the Joint Administrators in managing the Resort pending a sale.”
The statement adds that the resort will continue to trade on a business-as-usual basis, and that existing bookings and gift vouchers will remain valid.
