Tony Finau has been confronted by protesters over an apparent financial dispute.
The 34-year-old, who has made more than $42 million in PGA Tour earnings, was attending his annual golf tournament at Oakridge Country Club near his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, when the incident happened.
According to Deseret News, the peaceful protestors spent two and a half hours outside the club’s gates.
The outlet says “Finau has failed to repay them or their family members and business associates for money and/or time they say helped the former Salt Lake City resident make it big in professional golf”.

Rocky Bowlby, the organiser of the protest and co-founder of insurance company Dental Select, said: “This is all about awareness. No one knows the real Tony.”
The protesters held up signs that said things like “keep your word” and “pay your debts”.
Deseret News also claim they tried to speak to Finau but were told by his management it was a private event.

Finau is set to appear in court in October after a lawsuit was filed by Molonai Hola, who alleges non-repayment of loans provided to the golfer between 2006 and 2009. According to Golfweek, Mr Hola claims “financial assistance alone totalled approximately $600,000”, including mortgage payments, medical bills, and golf-related expenses including tournament fees, equipment and apparel. It is not known if the incidents are related.
Finau, a six-time PGA Tour champion, has already had one case dismissed in 2021 after David Hunter sued the six-time PGA Tour champion for a breach of contract after he invested in the Finau Corporation, which dissolved in 2009.
