The world’s first ‘playable golf billboard’ was unveiled in Edinburgh by the R&A on Thursday.
At Waverley Station, fans were able to experience playing the Old Course’s iconic par-3 eight hole ahead of the AIG Women’s Open.
It’s part of the event’s new ‘Never Stop Playing’ campaign which is hoped to elevate the excitement of golf for fans before the final major of the women’s season.
The billboard was transformed into a golf simulator using cameras to track the player’s speed, arc and direction with real golf shots.
A real-time leaderboard tracked a nearest-the-pin competition, which awarded a a pair of Sunday tickets and a chance to be an official walking scorer for one of the final round groups to the winner.

“The playable billboard is a brilliant idea to introduce more people to golf and get them excited about the AIG Women’s Open. It’s initiatives like these that will keep our sport growing and evolving.”
