Four more huge names have reportedly quit the PGA Tour ahead of the LIV Golf opener this week.

Sergio Garcia and South Africans Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace have all resigned from the circuit, according to Associated Press.

The quartet follow American Kevin Na in giving up their membership of the tour after being named in the 48-man field for the LIV curtain-raiser in St Albans.

None of the four have yet commented on the reports. However, Na claimed last week he “cannot remain a PGA Tour player without facing disciplinary proceedings and legal action” for exercising his “right to choose”.

Garcia’s relationship with the tour has been particularly stormy of late, especially following his rant at the Wells Fargo where he declared he “can’t wait” to leave.

The all-time record European Ryder Cup points scorer’s DP World Tour future remains unclear, with the Spaniard holding honorary membership of the organisation.

The latest development came despite LIV chief executive Greg Norman insisting players would not have to resign from the established circuits in order to take part in the Saudi-backed breakaway league.

On Monday Phil Mickelson became the latest big name to confirm he will play in the first event, which will mark his comeback to competitive golf.

The LIV Series begins on Thursday with a shotgun start, 54-hole team event.
