• Rickie Fowler to play Scottish Open for second year running
• The world No.9 finished in a tie for eighth at Royal Aberdeen
• “It should be a blast to play Gullane,” said the 26-year-old

RICKIE FOWLER

Rickie Fowler has confirmed his appearance at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open for the second year running as he looks to improve on his top ten finish at Royal Aberdeen in 2014.

The 26-year-old, who secured his second PGA Tour title at the Players Championship earlier this month, finished in a tie for eighth last year, seven shots behind winner Justin Rose.

But the Scottish Open proved to be a great warm-up for the world No.9, as he went on to finish runner-up at the Open Championship in a year where he became only the third player after Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods to finish in the top five of all four majors.

The American, who also played in Abu Dhabi for the first time earlier this season, said: “I’ve really enjoyed travelling to Europe and the Middle East over the past year, and I will also be joining Rory in Ireland this week.

“I had a great couple of weeks playing links golf at Royal Aberdeen and Hoylake last year, and there is no question that my experience of adapting my game to links conditions in Aberdeen contributed to my runner-up finish in the Open the following week.

“It should be a blast to play Gullane in the Scottish Open before heading up the coast to St Andrews the following week.”

Rickie Fowler joins an already stellar field for the tournament – which will be held in East Lothian for the first time in its history – and includes world No.1 Rory McIlroy, last year’s winner Justin Rose, fellow Americans Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar and Scottish stars Stephen Gallacher and Marc Warren.
