Rickie Fowler blew his chance of securing an automatic Ryder Cup spot after a nightmare final round at The Barclays saw him fall from overnight leader to a tie for seventh.

Needing to finish at least in a four-way tie for second or solo third, the 27-year-old had looked good for a place of Davis Love III’s team heading into Sunday’s final round at Bethpage having held a one-shot lead over Patrick Reed.
"I've just got to go out and get ready to play next week" - Rickie Fowler

However, a four-over-par back nine, including two bogeys and a double-bogey in his final four holes, saw him drop out of contention.

“My main focus was winning,” said Rickie Fowler. “Wasn't too worried about that . If I focus on just winning the golf tournament -- you know, not finish the way I did, things would be fine. Just made some not-so-good swings at a bad time.

“I've just got to go out and get ready to play next week. Coming off a win there last year, I feel like I'm in a good spot.”

The Barclays - Final Round

It was Reed who emerged victorious to book his place at Hazeltine, seeing off Sean O’Hair by one stroke, and immediately he started the fighting talk saying he was after ‘sweet revenge’.
"I want sweet revenge" - Patrick Reed

“I want sweet revenge just like our whole team does,” he said. “There's nothing like playing for your country and representing the United States. You know, being able to do it for the first time overseas at the Ryder Cup was just amazing. It was so much fun.”

The US team looks like this, with captain Love making three of his four wildcard picks on September 12 before making his final one on September 25, just a week before the match:
