Robert MacIntyre has withdrawn after a two-over-par front nine at the BMW Championship.
The Scot was playing alongside Tony Finau in Colorado when he was forced out of the penultimate event of the 2024 PGA Tour season.
According to MacIntyre’s representatives, the Scottish Open champ sustained a lower back injury.
“Sadly, we have to announce that Robert MacIntyre has withdrawn from the BMW Championship with a niggling back injury incurred in the last five minutes before his tee time in Round 3,” said a social media post from Bounce Sports Management. “He will now receive treatment in the hope of making [the] Tour Championship.”
The Oban man is currently projected to make it through to next week’s season finale as he’s inside the top-30 on the FedEx Cup standings.
He started the week in 12th but, following his withdrawal, is projected to slip to 21st.
Whether or not he’ll be fit enough to take his place at East Lake remains to be seen.

After earning his playing rights for the US-based circuit after finishing inside the top-1o on the DP World Tour’s Race To Dubai last year, he has made 23 starts, winning the Canadian Open in June and Scottish Open last month.
In doing so, he became only the second Scot to win twice in one PGA Tour season, emulating the achievement of Sandy Lyle in 1988.
Along the way, he has banked more than $5.4million – taking his career earnings on the PGA Tour to almost $7.9m from 52 events – and, just last week, climbed to a career high of 15th on the Official World Golf Ranking.
