The odds for Robert MacIntyre to win next month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush have been slashed.
Following his agonising near-miss at Oakmont, the Oban man has been heavily backed to go one better in the final major of the year.
He was pipped at the post by a remarkable JJ Spaun finish, which saw the American seal the US Open title with a pair of closing birdies.
But MacIntyre is proving a popular bet to make amends.
According to Oddschecker, a staggering 43% of all Open Championship bets since the US Open finished have backed MacIntyre to win the tournament.
As recently as Thursday, he was 50/1 to win the Claret Jug in Northern Ireland. The 28-year-old is now a general 28/1 shot.

“The support we’ve seen across the platform this morning is very impressive,” said Oddschecker spokesperson Leon Blackman.
“In the month prior to the US Open, we’d seen only 1.9% of all bets backing MacIntyre.
“Usually, we see a spike in betting support for the winner of a tournament, but MacIntyre is bucking the trend with golf bettors keen to take advantage of his odds before they continue to shorten for a win at Portrush.”
Spaun, meanwhile, has notched 5% of total bets for the Open Championship since his heroics on Sunday evening.
He is currently a best-priced 80/1 to win a second consecutive major.
The odds comparison site also noted that the shift in MacIntyre’s betting odds moves him just short of the top ten favourites.

At the time of writing, Scottie Scheffler remains a best-priced 5/1 favourite to win golf’s oldest major, while Rory McIlroy is 13/2.
Jon Rahm is next in the market at 14/1, with Bryson DeChambeau and Ludvig Aberg available at 20/1.
Tyrrell Hatton’s T4 effort earned him a market move, too. The Englishman was shortened from 35/1 to 25/1, as has Viktor Hovland.
Moving the other way was DeChambeau, who missed the cut in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was 14/1 pre-tournament.
