• Rory McIlroy disappointed with T9 finish at Doral
• “My game’s just not quite there,” said the world No.1
• Heads to Augusta this week for practice ahead of the Masters

RORY MCILROY

World No.1 Rory McIlroy admitted to being “disappointed” with how he played at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, despite finishing inside the top ten.

The 25-year-old finished the final round yesterday with a double-bogey on the 18th, pushing him down to T9 on one-under par alongside Kevin Na and Ryan Moore.

His top ten finish was a marked improvement on a missed cut at the Honda Classic last week, but the four-time major champion was far from content with his performance at Trump Doral.

“I’m pretty disappointed with how I played overall” – Rory McIlroy

“My game’s just not quite there. I’ve got a week off now to try and work on it a little bit but I’m pretty disappointed with how I played overall,” Rory McIlroy said.

“I feel a bit better about my game after this week compared to playing two days at Honda as it’s a top ten somehow. But I’ll just move on and practice hard all week and next to get ready for Bay Hill.”

Rory McIlroy won’t be taking part in this week’s Valspar Championship, opting instead to head up to Augusta National to play some practice rounds ahead of the Masters in a little over four weeks’ time.

And the Northern Irishman won’t be alone at Augusta, as he is expected to be joined by his father Gerry, NFL star Tom Brady and club member Jeff Knox, who famously outscored the world No.1 in the third round of last year’s tournament, where he was out as a marker.

World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship - Final Round

Rory McIlroy is in the pursuit of a career grand slam at the Masters and a third consecutive major victory following his triumphs at the Open Championship and the US PGA Championship in 2014, but is aware he has to regain some form heading into the tournament.

He said: “My inability to hit the ball right-to-left isn’t something that you want going into Augusta and it’s something I need to work on a little bit. I guess I’ll just be trying to hit the shots that I need and that’ll probably be a lot of draws, or trying to anyway.

“I need to get comfortable with the place again. You don’t really get Augusta at tournament speed until the week of the tournament, so I’ll just be trying to reacquaint myself, play the shots that I’ll need and try to get some visuals going into the next couple of weeks.”
