Hot on the heels of becoming only the fourth golfer to win multiple majors and PLAYERS Championship titles, Rory McIlroy has penned another piece of PGA Tour history.

With his T5 finish in the Texas Children’s Houston Open, the Irishman has become the first non-American to bank more than $100 million in career earnings on the US-based circuit.

He is, in fact, only the second player to amass a nine-figure bounty following Tiger Woods, who leads the way with career earnings of $120,999,166.

McIlroy’s fifth PGA Tour start of the year – and his final appearance before his latest attempt to win The Masters and complete the career grand slam – brings his total official earnings to $100,046,906 from 262 total appearances.

Victory at The PLAYERS Championship earlier in March earned McIlroy a cool $4.5million, moving ahead of Phil Mickelson on the career earnings chart and to within a whisker of the $100 million mark.

Meanwhile, speaking to the Golf Channel after completing his week’s work in Houston, McIlroy revealed that he’s nursing a minor injury concern as he finalises his preparations for the first men’s major of the year.

Speaking to on-course reporter Kira K. Dixon, the world No.2 revealed he has been dealing with right elbow discomfort.

“I’ll get some treatment on that [this week] and make sure that that’s okay going into Augusta,” McIlroy said.

Other than that, the four-time major champ says he’s feeling mostly positive about his game as he travels to Georgia.

“I still feel like I’ve got some stuff to work on,” he added. “I still don’t think like my game is absolutely 100% under the control I would want, but it’s nice to have a week to work on some things.

“I’ve got my coach, Michael Bannon, coming in tomorrow, so we’ll be working at home and making sure game feels good going into The Masters.”
