Rory McIlroy winning The PLAYERS Championship was significant for a number of reasons.

For one, it marks the first time the Irishman has won two or more times on American soil in a calendar year prior to The Masters.

He also becomes the first European to win the title multiple times and moves into the top-20 in all-time victories on the circuit, with 28 now to his name.

However, perhaps most significant is the huge leap he has taken on the list of the PGA Tour biggest earners.

The $4.5million cheque banked by the four-time major winner moves him past Phil Mickelson into second place on the Career Earnings list.

McIlroy has now made $99,709,062 on the US-based circuit, with LIV man Mickelson on $96,685,635.

Rory has amassed his haul from 261 starts, averaging $382,027 per tournament.

The only player ahead of him now in official earnings is Tiger Woods, who has made $120,999,166 from his 378 starts.

There is a high chance that McIlroy will move beyond the $100million mark at The Masters – but will he finally walk off with the Green Jacket that he craves the most?

We’ll find out in just a few weeks’ time.
