Rory McIlroy isn’t satisfied just yet.

The former world No.1, who has won four majors, 26 PGA Tour events and six DP World Tour Race to Dubai crowns across his garlanded career, still has three tangible goals left he wants to achieve to complete the most extraordinary of CVs.

The first of those is obvious.

McIlroy is still chasing the elusive career Grand Slam by winning the Masters at Augusta National.

The second and third goals would then help push the Northern Irishman right to the very top in the list of the European greats in the modern era.

“Winning the Masters, winning an Olympic medal and another away Ryder Cup, they are my three goals for the rest of my career,” McIlroy told BBC Sport’s Iain Carter.

The Ryder Cup leg of a dream end to the 35-year-old’s career could come in the bearpit of Bethpage Black this year. McIlroy, of course, was part of the Miracle of Medinah in 2012 and is desperate to get that rare winning feeling again on the road under Luke Donald in September.

“I’ve experienced it once, and it was absolutely amazing,” he said at the Dubai Desert Classic this month. “And I would love to experience it once again. And it’s getting harder and harder to do. We’ve got a great opportunity this year.”

Before that tantalising match in New York and an Olympic Games in Los Angeles way ahead in 2028, McIlroy will again set about exorcising his demons in the majors.

“I’ve realised that all I can control is myself,” he said. “What’s right for me right now is to fully focus on myself and to get the best out of myself and get back to winning the biggest tournaments in the world.

“I’ve been agonisingly close for the past few years, without being able to get it done and that that is the main focus of this year.”
