RORY MCILROY

By his own admissions, 2015 was a disappointing year for Rory McIlroy.

Targeting more major success, the 26-year-old finished fourth at the Masters in pursuit of his career grand slam, before following that up with a ninth-placed finish at the US Open as Jordan Spieth made it back-to-back major wins.

Disaster then struck for McIlroy as, in defence of his Open Championship title, he damaged ankle ligaments which ruled him out for eight weeks, and he rushed back not 100% fit to end 17th at the US PGA Championship.

He still managed four wins though – Dubai Desert Classic, WGC-Cadillac Match Play, Wells Fargo Championship and DP World Tour Champinonship – but for a four-time major winner with such lofty ambitions, it wasn’t enough.

But McIlroy has still achieved a significant amount in his relatively short career so far, as shown in this cool Storymap kindly provided to us by Links Golf Ireland. Use the arrows and scroll bar to navigate your way through.
