For someone that needed plenty of coaxing to appear in Netflix docuseries Full Swing, Rory McIlroy seems to have caught the bug.
We’re now just a few months away from the launch of TGL – the new golf league founded by McIlroy and Tiger Woods through their co-owned company TMRW Sports – which was delayed by a year when its venue was destroyed.
There are a number of franchises from around the US competing in the so-called tech-infused league, including New York, LA, and Woods’ Jupiter Links.
McIlroy, meanwhile, teamed up with Fenway Sports to create Boston Common, and will be joined by Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama.
Of course, building a new sports league and a number of teams within it is no walk in park, so the four-time major champion decided to give us a behind-the-scenes look at how things are done.
We’ll let the man himself explain in this short teaser video.

“I love the game of golf,” Rory says in the trailer. “And now I want it to grow, become more accessible, and help bring it into the future.
“So I decided to go all in, and join in launching a new team golf league called TGL.
“Signs, pretty straightforward, right? So over the last couple of years, we invited a documentary crew to follow me and the entire team as we created, from scratch, a new TGL team for the wildly passionate sports fans of Boston.
“This is all the ups, the downs, and ups again of that journey. Who knows where it could go?”

The five part-series will air in December on Golf Channel and GolfPass in the US – though a UK broadcaster is to be decided – and is being funded by Comcast Business, which has a close relationship with the PGA Tour and dishes out a $40 million purse to the top ten in the FedEx Cup standings prior to the season-ending playoffs.
