Iconic prize set to go on display at the SECC in Glasgow this March

The trophy which was at the centre of one of the most memorable sporting comebacks of all-time last September, the Ryder Cup, is on its way to the 2013 Scottish Golf Show.

The iconic gold prize will be on display at the ever-popular three-day annual show when it takes place from March 22-24 at the SECC in Glasgow.

Its appearance at the 2013 Scottish Golf Show is appropriate given that it will next be contested on Scottish soil, at Gleneagles in 2014, where Paul McGinley and Tom Watson will lead the European and American sides respectively.

Show organiser Tom Lovering said: “Like most golf fans the world over, I was glued to the action at Medinah last year and was stunned and delighted by the European team’s brave final day fightback.

“That incredible recovery demonstrated just how much this famous trophy means to those who contest it and so to have it on display at the 2013 Scottish Golf Show is a major boost as the clock ticks down on our return to Glasgow.

“We were already confident that the 2013 show would be one to remember and today’s news has further affirmed that belief.

“I’d encourage every golfer in the country to come along and take this unique opportunity to see the spoils of the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ up close.”

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “In less than two years time, Scotland will welcome the world when we host one of the most exciting sporting events on the planet as the Ryder Cup descends on Gleneagles.

“The last event at Medinah truly captured the imagination for its sheer drama and whetted the appetite further for what we hope will be the best ever Ryder Cup in 2014.  I’m delighted that the trophy at the centre of it all will be on display at the Scottish Golf Show and will help build pride and excitement among Scottish golf fans.

“VisitScotland is a long-time supporter of the Scottish Golf Show and I hope the appearance of the Ryder Cup trophy will add to what already promises to be a terrific event for golf fans.”
