• Scots aiming to start 2016 in the best possible way
• Russell Knox will be hoping to build on his fine 2015 in Hawaii
• Ferguson, Forrest, McDonald and Syme all Down Under

SCOTTISH GOLF

A host of Scots will aim to get their 2016 campaigns off to the best possible start as they play in tournaments in various corners of the globe this week.

Russell Knox, who wouldn’t have wanted his 2015 to end after a fine PGA Tour season before clinching his breakthrough win at the WGC-HSBC Champions in November, gets straight back into the action at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, where he will face-off against the likes of world No.1 Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson.

Jamie McLeary is all set to play in his second European Tour event of the wraparound season after regaining his card at the BMW SA Open in Johannesburg, where he will be joined by David Drysdale, Craig Lee and amateur Daniel Young, who won the South African Amateur Championship last year.

2015 Walker Cup - Previews

Having benefited from an intensive performance training camp in the UAE, Scottish national squad players will hone their games and chase silverware at prestigious events in the coming weeks, with Walker Cup-winning players Ewen Ferguson, Jack McDonald and Grant Forrest having particularly hectic schedules, starting on Wednesday.

The trio are Down Under along with Drumoig’s Connor Syme to contest the Australian Master of the Amateurs at Royal Melbourne from January 6-9, before going on to compete in the Australian Men’s Amateur at Metropolitan and Peninsula-Kingswood from January 12-17.

And Ferguson certainly looks like he is relishing the prospect of playing in the tournament and no wonder, considering a former winner of the Green Jacket is Jason Day, who tasted victory back in 2006.
