Scottie Scheffler has confirmed that he will miss another PGA Tour event after suffering a freak injury on Christmas Day.
The world No.1 was forced to pull out of The Sentry last week after cutting his hand open whilst preparing dinner.
A statement from the PGA Tour said that Scheffler sustained a “puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass”.
And it’s not healed in time for his targeted return at The American Express, which takes place at La Quinta Country Club in California from January 16-19.
“After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal,” Scheffler wrote on Instagram.
“I am still hopeful to begin my 2025 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am.”

The setback is a blow for the 28-year-old, who has played in the last five editions of the event.
But, after the incident, his agent Blake Smith reassured fans that Scheffler would be “back to 100% in three to four weeks”.
Now, the two-time Masters champion has set a new comeback date of January 30 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am, in California.
It’s the second Signature Event of the 2025 season, albeit one that Scheffler has only teed it up in once.
He finished T6 on his debut at Pebble Beach Golf Links before eventually claiming eight wins in the calendar year.

Meanwhile, Scheffler also became the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2009 to be ranked world No.1 for every week of the year and helped Team USA to a tenth consecutive Presidents Cup.
Injury aside, Scheffler is one of several big-name PGA Tour players who are not signed to a TGL team.
The indoor league makes its long-awaited debut tonight at the SoFi Centre in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
