It was one of the most surreal days in what has been a surreal year for golf.
First the rumour, then the confirmation, then the mugshot, then the videos.
For a few bizarre hours ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla, the golf world stood still as news filtered out that Scottie Scheffler had been arrested while on his way into Valhalla for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
And while that all ended with charges being dropped, there is some good news coming out of that day.
The cap Scheffler wore to shoot a ludicrously impressive five-under 66 has raised a lot of money for charity.
The white Nike lid, which the two-time Masters champion later autographed, found its way into an auction for the Kids Cancer Alliance, and eventually sold for $2,375.
That’s a whole bunch of dough for an incredibly worthy cause and a hell of a conversation starter for its new owner.
Now imagine how much they would get for the jumpsuit…
