A popular Scottish driving range has issued a public plea after it was targeted by a late-night burglary earlier this week.

Wellsgreen Golf Range, in Leven, has shared CCTV footage of an individual stealing £5,000 worth of golf clubs on Tuesday night.

The incident happened at around 11.15pm and, as well as the theft, the main door and shutter was damaged.

A post on Facebook read: “We were broken into on Tuesday night at around 11.15pm by this low life. The police arrived about 1 minute after he left!!

“He got away with approximately £5,000 worth of golf clubs. If you see any TaylorMade Qi10 or Titleist GT drivers going cheap without head covers then they are probably ours.

“Any information would be greatly appreciated.

“His shape, trackie bottoms and trainers are probably quite recognisable… PM us anything you might know, and we will forward onto the police. Thanks.”

Stewart Whiteford from Wellsgreen reckons the criminal is ‘working alone’ after trying to break into other golf venues in the central belt.

Speaking to The Courier, he explained that a video is circulating from Next Gen Golf, too.

“We’ve got loud alarms that would give you a fright,” Whiteford said. “I think police thought they had got somebody, but no. I don’t think they’ve got a lot to go on.

“We’ve seen him in a video from a place called Next Gen Golf. It looks like it could the same guy.

“So, it looks like he’s not just operating locally, because that’s in the Glasgow area. He’s obviously a guy working alone, there was nobody else.”

Meanwhile, a Police Scotland spokesperson added: “At around 11.15pm on Tuesday, officers received a report of a break-in and theft at a premises on Standing Stane Road.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

As well as a driving range and a pro shop, Wellsgreen is home to a six-hole par-3 ‘Wee Course’.
