It’s been a tough week for Scottish golf but, finally, there is some good news.

Two golf clubs – the Hirsel, in the Borders, and Torrance Park, in Motherwell – have been forced to close, as clubs across the UK continue to struggle.

Torrance Park said it has been ‘loss-making’ for several years, while the Hirsel declared it was filing for bankruptcy.

However, Murrayshall Country Estate Golf Club, in Perthshire, is defying the trend – and has reported a huge spike in membership.

After undergoing a four-year investment plan to enhance the club’s facilities and reputation, Murrayshall has enjoyed a 16% increase in new members and a 15% rise in green fee rounds this year.

It comes on the heels of a recent £1 million investment that has modernised the Murrayshall championship course with a US-style parkland layout.

Enhanced drainage, renovated bunkers, and a new fleet of Jacobsen mowers, have improved its playability and extended the playing season.

“Our ongoing investment in world-class amenities and exceptional service, both on and off the course, is attracting more members and guests,” said Gary Silcock, General Manager at Murrayshall.

“People are recognising the unique quality and charm that Murrayshall offers, and we are well positioned to continue this momentum and welcome even more golfers who seek a premier experience.”

Golf Course Manager Darrin Urquhart added: “Murrayshall’s growth reflects our commitment to quality and community.

“We’ve focused on both the golf experience and our facilities, and the feedback speaks for itself.

“Golfers are continually impressed by the immaculate condition of our greens, and we are the ideal choice for golfers seeking a top-tier experience in Scotland.”

Meanwhile, plans are underway to build a new golf academy with 17 bays and two teaching bays, in a bid to enhance the practice facilities and Pro Shop.

The improvements have led to increased interest in Murrayshall’s membership offerings, which start from just £100.

Flexible options are available for up to £950 for a full 7-day access.
