Scottish Open :: Travel information

Spectators at this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open are being urged to make travel plans in advance and stick to organised routes as they make their way to see some of golf’s biggest stars compete at Gullane.

Transport planning information has been published by the event organisers and ensures that the 50,000 people expected to attend one of Scottish golf’s most high profile events can effectively plan their journey.

Fans are being encouraged to take advantage of the free park and ride services on offer as there is no public parking available at the course itself.

Specific routes have also been identified to ensure as little disruption as possible to both Gullane residents and those travelling to and from the event. These routes bring spectators to the public car park from the East, and therefore avoid any congestion in Gullane.

Members of the public who are not attending the Scottish Open should also try, where possible, to find alternative routes and avoid the A198 through Gullane in particular.

The key points from the transport plan are:

• No public parking at Gullane Golf Club;
• Visitors not attending the tournament should avoid using the A198 as this could cause significant delays;
• There is a regular train service from Edinburgh to North Berwick and a free shuttle bus will operate from North Berwick railway station;
• There will be a complimentary shuttle bus from the public car park to the course;
• Those travelling by car should use the A1 and exit at the Oak Tree Junction at Haddington;
• Anyone using the A7 and A68 should follow signs to Haddington via the A6093 and then follow the appropriate AA signs.

Tournament director Peter Adams said: “Every effort has been made to minimise travel disruption, both for spectators and local residents. The event is among the most prestigious in world golf and increasingly popular, attracting some of the biggest names in the sport to Scotland.”

Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council’s spokesperson for economic development and tourism, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Gullane. The village and surrounding area are very much open for business and I’m sure if everyone follows the traffic advice, spectators will be able to get to the course easily and local businesses can benefit from the influx of visitors.”

The Scottish Open takes place from July 9-12, where Justin Rose will be looking to defend his title as part of a stellar line-up, which also includes world No.1 Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar and Jimmy Walker.
