Shriners Children's Open

The PGA Tour heads to Las Vegas for the latest event in its Fall Series for the Shriners Children’s Open.

This year at TPC Summerlin in Nevada, much of the attention will be on Lexi Thompson, who is in the field on a sponsor’s invite.

The 11-time LPGA Tour winner is just the seventh woman in history to tee it up against the men in a PGA Tour event.

“I’m hopeful that my ability to play with the men next week at the Shriners Children’s Open sends a great message to the young women that you can chase your dream regardless of how hard it is,” Thompson said.

American star Thompson will go up against a field which includes European Ryder Cup hero Ludvig Aberg.

Aberg is among the favourites to seal his maiden PGA Tour victory and will also be joined in the field by Ryder Cup teammate Nicolai Hojgaard in Las Vegas.

Tom Kim won this tournament last time out, after benefitting from Patrick Cantlay’s horrendous triple-bogey finish to claim his second PGA Tour title.

The bunkered bet

Ludvig Aberg 14/1

It didn’t take long for Aberg to compete for another title after the highs of Marco Simone. The Swedish sensation played some fantastic golf at the Sanderson Farms Championship just days after his Ryder Cup whirlwind in Rome, losing out in a five-man playoff to Luke List. Aberg shot 18-under last week and don’t be surprised to see him go just as low, with an easy course seeing winners finish at least 20-under in the past five tournaments. Aberg is on a roll and we don’t expect him to take his foot off the gas up against what is a comparatively weak field in Nevada.
