Entries open for fundraising event on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support is once again calling on golf enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to play four rounds of golf in one day and help raise money for people affected by cancer.

Covering 72 holes, 20 miles and 300 shots in one day, the Longest Day Golf Challenge is the ultimate test for all golfers. Taking part couldn’t be easier – golfers simply register at macmillan.org.uk/longestdaygolf, pick a date to take on their challenge and ask friends and family for sponsorship.

The challenge can be completed on four different courses or the same course four times in one day. As well as the usual golfing gear, participants will need stamina, enthusiasm and a good sense of humour to get through the day in one piece and smiling!

To add to the excitement, the top four teams that complete the challenge will go on to compete for the coveted 2013 Longest Day Challenge Cup, the final of which will take place at Boavista Golf Resort, Portugal, in October 2013.

The Longest Day Golf Challenge is popular with a number of Macmillan’s celebrity supporters, including television presenter and keen golfer Tim Lovejoy.

“The Longest Day Golf Challenge is a fantastic way to support a great cause,” said Tim. “I know first hand how invaluable Macmillan’s work is – so why not show what you’re made of and sign up today?”

In 2012, over 500 teams took part in the challenge and raised more than £560,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. This year, the aim is to smash this total and raise even more money for people affected by cancer. And what better way to fundraise for a worthy cause than by spending a summer’s day on the golf course?
