Golf fans across the UK were left frustrated after mass outages affecting Sky TV left them unable to watch large parts of the opening round of the PGA Championship.

Tens of thousands of customers reported problems with the subscription broadcaster on Downdetector after their satellite boxes crashed on Thursday night.

The problems started as armchair golf enthusiasts were settling in to watch the action from round one of the second men’s major of the season.

Many took to social media to vent their annoyance.

“No comment from Sky with a major golf tournament on,” wrote one person on X (formerly Twitter). “Maybe they’ll refund us all.”

Another added: “Thought I’d got the Sky issue sorted. Was ten minutes without a crash and then HDMI issues again. Might catch the rest of the golf tomorrow.”

A third chipped in to say: “Sky box has shut down loads of times since 9 o clock. Not ideal when trying to watch the golf.”

One customer managed to see the funny side of it all, posting: “Solve the problem of your Sky TV going down whilst you’re watching the golf by going to bed at 8pm. Simple.”

The issues particularly impacted viewers in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Wandsworth, Bolton, Bristol, Nottingham, Sheffield and Waltham Forest.

A Sky spokesperson told The Sun: “We’re sorry some customers had trouble accessing Sky Q last night. The issue was quickly resolved, and service has been restored.”

According to the company, a technical issue has caused Sky Q box to go into a standby mode.

Users should reset their boxes by switching them off and unplugging from a power socket for 30 seconds.
