Welcome to this week’s Social Eyes where golf’s Twitter King, Ian Poulter, has had a few days he’d probably like to get back.
It all started when he took a Facebook user to task over his rather blunt assessment of the Englishman following his run-in with a cameraman during the Hong Kong Open. You can read the unfortunate back-story here.
Anyway, in response to angry Twitter users, Poulter attempted to defend his decision to call out the man publicly… which drew a response from the guy’s employers.
@IanJamesPoulter We sincerely apologize for our drivers incredible lack of judgment. He is currently be routed to our MI HQ.

Cue a torrent of tweets demanding that the chap in question be spared the sack. So, back came Poulter…
Just to clarify.. I spoke with @ReliableCarrier COO & no one is getting fired. Fredom of speech is allowed. We both expressed ours. #Relax

Still, not many were impressed by the Ryder Cup star’s handling of the whole affair, which left him feeling, well, just a little bit sorry for himself.
For all the good I do, just seems to be undone at times. That’s never the intention, on reflection I shouldn’t react to people the way do.

Poulter wasn’t alone in using Twitter to do a little venting this week. Two-time PGA Tour winner Justin Thomas was getting in on the act, too.
The American played in the FT Shootout last week, where all the talk was about Bryson DeChambeau’s ‘side-saddle’ putting. Thomas played in a group with the maverick DeChambeau and soon after lost his cool in the face of one question too many about the unorthodox putting on display.
To prevent more texts about it, yes @b_dechambeau is really good at the side saddle, no I couldn’t do it and yes he is a lot smarter than me

Luckily, ‘Beef’ turned up to save the day with this well-timed tweet.
@JustinThomas34 @b_dechambeau he’s smarter than pretty much everyone.

Meanwhile, John Daly’s son, ‘Little John’, demonstrated during last week’s PNC Father/Son Challenge that he has inherited his old man’s ability for pounding a golf ball miles down the fairway, as this tweet from the Champions Tour demonstrates…
Like father, like son.https://t.co/fb7gUkC4Ri

Ernie Els was amongst those who was impressed by JD Jnr’s efforts.
little John Daly one of the best swings i have ever seen!! @PGA_JohnDaly

And if you think that’s good, just wait until you see how well new European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn’s son Oliver swings it…

Speaking of golfers and their kids, James Hahn’s daughter met Santa Claus recently and, well, the picture speaks for itself.

Eddie Pepperell doesn’t have to worry about keeping kids entertained at Christmas just yet – which is just as well, given what his dog appears to get up to when he’s not paying attention.
