Robert MacIntyre might not have won the US Open, but he certainly didn’t lose any fans in the process at Oakmont.
In fact, the Scot is more popular than ever.
You only need to take one look at social media to see that, after MacIntyre’s reaction to the winning putt was caught on camera.
JJ Spaun holed a 60-foot putt to win the third men’s major of the year, and MacIntyre could only watch on and applaud.

“Wow,” he said clapping in the clubhouse of the incredible moment.
Before he headed inside, MacIntyre offered a glimpse into his tournament closer and +1 finish that was good enough for solo second.
“Obviously it didn’t get off to the best of starts,” he said. “I was two-over through three and then holed a lovely putt on four, par-5 for eagle.
“That kind of settled me down. That got me into somewhat of a groove and back in the golf tournament.
“Then the back nine was just all about fighting. Obviously the rain delay. My previous rain delay comebacks haven’t been strong.
“Today was a day that I said to myself, Why not? Why not it be me today? When I was going round, and I just trusted myself, trusted my caddie Mike, trusted all the work that I’ve done, and we’re sitting here in the clubhouse nicely and just wait and see.”

Bob MacIntyre appreciation post 🙌
He started the final round seven shots off the lead, posted the clubhouse lead only to be beaten by a birdie-birdie finish and one of the best Major winning putts we've seen.
Solo second and a career best Major finish.

re U.S. Open ⛳️
1. That was awesome. #sports
2. Robert MacIntyre with the genuine applause for J.J. and that putt while watching from the clubhouse with the lead was so cool to see. Pure class.

I’d give the win to Robert Macintyre for the absolute class he showed in the clubhouse. That display was the most impressive thing I’ve seen today #usopengolf

everybody looks miserable out here except Bob MacIntyre, who seems to be absolutely in his element

Dad tell me about the time that it looked like Bob MacIntyre was going to win the US Open for half an hour in 2025 pic.twitter.com/3Fs6Hi8Zqg

Since we were robbed of a Spaun-MacIntyre playoff, it is only right that they square off in singles on Sunday at Bethpage.
