Champion: Scotland’s Carly Booth won her maiden LET title at the event last year

Aberdeen Asset Management pledges further two years of support

Scottish women’s golf has been given a major shot in the arm by Aberdeen Asset Management extending its support of the Ladies Scottish Open.

The international investment management group, sponsor of the event since 2008 and also the title sponsor of the men’s Scottish Open, has pledged its support for a further two years, which will take it through to the end of 2014.

Announcing the extension, Martin Gilbert, the chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, commented: “As proud supporters of Scottish golf from grassroots through to the elite level, we are delighted to announce the extension of our title sponsorship of the Ladies Scottish Open for a further two years.

“The event gives Scotland the opportunity to showcase one of its beautiful courses and for us to shine a light onto some of the best golfers on the Ladies European Tour. We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with the tournament as part of our on-going commitment to the game.”

This year’s tournament will take place from August 30 to September 1 at Archerfield Links and will see 70 of the game’s top female professionals do battle in a unique pro-am format, which will include a number of celebrity faces.

Home fans attending the tournament will be hoping to see an unprecedented third consecutive Scottish winner, following Catriona Matthew and Carly Booth’s wins in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Looking ahead to her title defence, 20-year-old Booth said: “It’s just over a year since I achieved my maiden LET win at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open which was really special as it was in my home country.

“The win gave me the confidence to play well for the rest of the year and helped boost my confidence.

“I love the course at Archerfield and having the support of the home crowd and that of my friends and family, and I’m really looking forward to defending my title at the tournament at the end of August. With Catriona winning the tournament in 2011 and me winning it last year, we’re on for a hat-trick of Scottish champions.”

Matthew, who lives just a short drive from the course, added: “It is fantastic news that Aberdeen Asset Management is committing to support the tournament for a further two years. No company is doing more for Scottish golf than them at the moment.

“The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open has a unique format which is enjoyed by the professionals and amateurs alike and it has a great atmosphere.

“Playing in the tournament is always one of the highlights of my year as it’s so close to my home and means that I can spend quality time with my family as well as play golf with lots of supporters.”
