Storm Eowyn is wreaking havoc across many parts of the UK and Ireland right now – not least it’s parkland golf courses.
On Friday morning, we noted that Thornhill Golf Club, located in Dumfries and Galloway, was closing while greenkeepers assessed significant damage done by falling trees.
The Met Office’s red weather warning came with expected winds of up to 90mph and it’s been predicted that this will be the ‘most destructive’ storm to hit Scotland for 13 years.

And while it goes without saying that a Friday round is off the cards in these conditions, it is the extensive damage being done to the courses that is most worrying at this stage.
Many courses up across Scotland and well beyond are already feeling the effects.
Over on the west coast of the Isle of Man at Peel Golf Club, a vast number of trees have been felled, leaving a huge amount of work to be done before the course is made safe to play.

Spare a thought for those greenkeepers, who have the mammoth task of clearing up the damage before the course re-opens – which could be as early as Sunday.
The same issue has beset Dudrum Golf Club as the storm rips through Tipperary in southern Ireland.
“Storm Eowyn certainly left its mark on the course!” Dudrum’s Facebook update read. “We’ve had a few fallen trees, including one that ended up over the second green. Thankfully, there’s no damage to the green itself.
“Our Greenkeeping team is already on it and will have it all sorted in no time.”
Other golf courses are urging members to keep safe with various venues shutting their doors during what is being described as a “once in a generation” storm.
