Luke Donald will get a rare chance to see budding Ryder Cup players in team environs this week in a warm-up event for the biennial clash in Abu Dhabi.
The second-edition of the Team Cup will see ten players each from Continental Europe and Great Britain and Ireland battle it out in a Ryder Cup-style format ahead of this September’s showdown against the United States.
The purpose behind the event – which was won 14.5-10.5 by Continental Europe in 2023 – is to give players and future captains valuable experience of how the team format works.
Francesco Molinari will defend the trophy as winning captain for Continental Europe against Justin Rose, who will lead GB&I.

“Fran, Justin and I are really excited by the two teams which will assemble at the Team Cup in January,” Ryder Cup skipper Donald said.
“There’s a great mix of youth and experience on both sides and there will certainly be a competitive atmosphere at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort.
“This event provided valuable insight for a number of players who eventually made it to Marco Simone, with six of the 20 competitors in 2023 going on to play in the Ryder Cup, three of those making their debut appearances, and we’re excited to see who can make their mark in next year as they try and earn a place in my side for New York City.”
