Team Europe backed heavily at the bookies

According to Sam Torrance Team Europe are ‘worthy favuorites’ for this week’s Ryder Cup. It seems punters at Ladbrokes agree with McGinley’s vice captain, with a host of bets being placed on Rory McIlroy and Co to lift the trophy.

Team Europe are odds on to win at Gleneagles at 4/6, leaving the visitors almost - according to Ladbrokes - untouched by punters at 13/8. However, if you can't split the two teams and fancy the draw, you’ll get odds of 10/1.

Although, one European fan is so confident of a third straight triumph they’ve placed £30,000 on McGinley’s men to win, a bet which returns £20,000 at 4/6.

In the individual market, world No.1 Rory McIlroy is the 4/1 favourite to earn the most points for Team Europe, while three-time Ryder Cup winner Ian Poulter is expected to finish top points scorer out of Paul McGinley's wildcard picks.
"We cannot give the Americans away." - Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes

Rickie Fowler is priced at 5/1 to be the top scorer for Tom Watson’s US team. Although, at 8/1, Jim Furyk has proved most popular with punters.

Going by the activity at the bookies, Team Europe will take some beating says, Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes.

“In the last 24 hours the money has started to pour in for Europe and we cannot give the Americans away,” said Bridge. “As far as punters are concerned Paul McGinley's already got one hand on the trophy.”

If America cause an upset and win at Gleneagles, Ladbrokes will refund losing online/mobile wagers placed as a free bet up to £25. This applies to the top European player, top USA player and correct score markets.
