The Masters is right around the corner and that means fans are starting to place their bets.
As the first tee shot at Augusta National creeps closer, and closer, all eyes are on Rory McIlroy, bidding to end his major drought.
The Northern Irishman, fresh off his PLAYERS Championship win at TPC Sawgrass, is 6/1 on Betfair to win his first green jacket and repay his most loyal supporters.
But there is one man in front on McIlroy in the early betting for the 2025 Masters. You guessed it, Scottie Scheffler.
The 28-year-old world No.1 is the reigning champion in Georgia and, while he’s yet to win this year, Scheffler enters the fray as a 9/2 favourite with the bookmaker.
He has, of course, only tasted major glory at the Masters, having won the 2022 and 2024 renewals.
The pair once again head the market, albeit in closer order this year. Scheffler was a 5/1 favourite before winning last year, while McIlroy was a general 10/1 shot.

According to Betfair, their closest rival at the world’s most iconic golf venue will be Collin Morikawa.
The American has emerged as a real threat in recent weeks after finishing T10 at the PLAYERS Championship and second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Then it’s Jon Rahm and Ludvig Aberg, both 16/1 shots. The Spaniard has finished inside the top six on all four of his LIV starts this season, although could only muster up a T45 effort 12 months ago.
Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau is 20/1 to claim the green jacket and add to his collection of US Open titles, with Xander Schauffele currently 20/1, too.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “This year’s Masters looks as strong as ever, with a host of stellar names expected to be in the mix by the time the back nine on Sunday rolls around.
“Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is 9/2 favourite to become a three-time Masters winner, placing him alongside the greats of the sport.
“By contrast, second favourite Rory McIlroy has never worn a Green Jacket, but strong recent showings have him at 6/1.”
Among the other early favourites are Joaquin Niemann at 28/1 – after winning a second LIV title of the year this month – and Viktor Hovland at 33/1.
Scot Robert MacIntyre has been backed into 50/1 on Betfair, too.
