The Masters: Long-range weather forecast predicts bad news!

It’s just two weeks until the first balls are struck down the fairway of Tea Olive at Augusta National.

But, according to long-range weather forecasts, players might face a wet walk down the first hole of this year’s Masters.

And patrons might need an umbrella or two.

AccuWeather has provided a detailed first look at the weather for Masters week, so here’s how it shapes up…

The Masters starts on Thursday, April 10, and while the weather looks set to cool down as the week goes on, forecasts are predicting a fair share of water in Georgia.

Thursday, April 10: Close to 100 percent cloud coverage, 55 percent chance of rain and four percent chance of thunderstorms during the day.

About 2.5 hours of rain with less than 0.1 inch expected. Rain is expected to continue into the evening with temperatures just under 80 degrees.

Friday, April 11: Close to 100 percent cloud coverage, 62 percent chance of rain lasting five hours accumulating about 0.3 inches during the day.

A 15 percent chance of it turning into a thunderstorm later that night, with temperatures around 70 degrees during the day and 52 at night.

Saturday, April 12: Close to 100 percent cloud coverage, 62 percent chance of rain lasting 4.5 hours accumulating about 0.3 inches during the day.

Rain likely to continue into the night, but no chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures will feel like 67 degrees during the day and 48 degrees at night.

Sunday, April 13: Cloudy, with some sunlight and a 25 percent chance of rain.

Clouds will clear later in the day, with temperatures around 72 degrees during the day and 52 degrees at night.

As mentioned above, it’s expected to be a hotter start to Masters week.

For Monday’s practice round, on April 7, temperatures will fluctuate between 72 and 77 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of rain.

On Tuesday, April 8, the long-range forecast shows little to no clouds, with a 20 percent chance of rain. However, temperatures could rise to 80 degrees and 50 percent humidity.

And it’s expected to feel like 85 degrees, with a UV index of nine on Wednesday for the Par-3 contest. Long story short, pack your sunscreen!

Meanwhile, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur – played from Wednesday, April 2, to Saturday, April 5 – is expected to get underway in wet conditions.

There is an 80 percent chance of rain for the opening round but that’s dropping to less than ten percent on Thursday, nothing on Friday and no rain on Saturday.

Of course, Saturday’s final round takes place at Augusta National, and the sun is set to shine, with temperatures reaching as high as 84 degrees.
