A handful of the world’s best golfers have found themselves in trouble with the law.

Stepping in front of the camera, albeit for the wrong reasons, has meant their mugshots have gone viral.

From Tiger Woods’ long-lasting image to the time when Jon Daly had too much to drink, here’s a look back at the most notable golfers mugshots…

• Scottie Scheffler “handcuffed” and “detained by police”

Scottie Scheffler

In one of the wildest stories of the year, the World No. 1 was handcuffed and detained by police following a traffic ‘misunderstanding’ at the PGA Championship. Following a fatal accident outside Valhalla GC, Scheffler attempted to drive past a police officer into the golf course.

Jose Maria Olazabal

In 2012, the Spaniard – due to lead Team Europe at the Ryder Cup that year – was caught driving at 97mph in a 65mph zone when stopped. Olazabal was released from the sheriff’s office after paying a $621 cash bond.

Harold Varner III

The LIV Golf star was arrested in 2023 for driving while impaired. Jail records revealed his breathalyser test showed a reading twice the legal limit. HV3 posted a $500 bond following his arrest.

Dustin Johnson

You might need a bit of help recognising this one, but it’s Dustin Johnson’s from 2009. When he was 24, Johnson was arrested for driving under the influence and spent just 22 minutes in the detention centre.

Steven Bowditch

Australian golfer Steven Bowditch was arrested in 2017 for drunken driving. After playing a PGA Tour event, he was held in-custody on an extreme DUI charge, meaning his blood alcohol reading was more than 0.20.

Tommy Gainey

The tour pro was one of 124 people arrested in Florida in a prostitution and human-trafficking sting. He was arrested and charged with first-degree misdemeanour solicitation in 2019.
