Royal Troon, the Golf Gods and Mother Nature combined to make the second round of The 152nd Open a true war of attrition.
As the wind speeds soared, so too did the scores, bringing an early end to proceedings for some of the biggest names in the game.
Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau are just some of the players without a weekend tee time in the final men’s major of the season, all of them struggling to harness Friday’s extremely challenging conditions.

But just how tough was the course? This little nugget of info should explain.
Taking the worst score recorded on each hole, the combined total was a whopping 128.
That’s 57-over-par.
Here’s a complete breakdown…
Overall, the course played to an average of 74.36 – almost three-and-a-half shots over-par.
Only 31 players carded a round of par or better. Thirteen failed to break 80, with poor Aguri Iwasaki carding a 20-over 91. The Japanese ace was responsible for the back-to-back nines you can see on 13 and 14.
There were 108 doubles or worse on day two and only three eagles.

The fifth was the hardest hole on day two. The 215-yard par-3 played almost half a shot over-par, yielding only three birdies all day.
The easiest, so to speak, was the last of the par-5s, the 16th, which averaged 4.792. There were two eagles, 67 birdies and only 27 bogeys or worse there all day. The 18th was the only other hole to play beneath its par as the cut fell.
