Tiger’s dram

When people saw Tiger Wood’s with the claret Jug after he won in ’06, what was the first thing they wanted to do? Grab a picture? Hold the Trophy? Get an autograph? No, according to Tiger, “People wanted to take pictures, but everyone wanted to slam back a couple out of the Jug”.

Black listed

David Duval isn’t exactly known for his good fortune, and as players hit the practice range to fine tune their swings this afternoon, Duval had a space free next to him. One fan piped up, “No one goes near Duval. It’s bad luck.” Harsh.

Russell Henley’s caddy was spotted on the third fairway carrying four burgers. “I’m acting like their own personal butler here, got some burgers for the boys,” he said. All the while Henley, Brendon De Jonge and Gary Woodland finished off the hole.

Never miss a second

This week, BBC Sport’s coverage of The Open will be the most comprehensive ever across TV, radio and online and via digital platforms on the course. With exclusive coverage from four days of play, the BBC will deliver over 40 hours of live TV coverage on BBC One and BBC Two in HD, 48 hours of radio on BBC Radio 5 Live, exclusive behind the scenes social media. Remember, you can discuss everything, and anything, about this year’s Open on the bunkered forum.

Rory’s hardship

Rory McIlroy: “I hit it long off the tee, but not always straight. I’d rather hit it 290, 300 in the fairway every time. That would make life much easier.” If only we all had the same problems as Rory.

Home alone

Scott Jamieson was delighted with his last minute inclusion at the Open, he told us as much when we bumped into him on the journey down to Liverpool. The Scot, father to a young daughter, would have been less than pleased with his 4:06 tee time on Thursday. He’s out dead last, looks like a long wait at home.

McIlroy major boast

Earlier today a reporter asked McIlroy what the best major victory of all time was. “There’s been so many unbelievable moments and huge putts that have been held or whatever. I count myself there as being pretty impressive,” said the Northern Irishman.

‘Amazing’ Royal Aberdeen

A couple of years back Graeme McDowell had a well publicised falling out with those in charge of the Scottish Open. This week he gave the event some positive PR. “I wasn’t really watching much of the coverage, I have to say,” said G-Mac. “I did switch it on for a few minutes. The golf course looked amazing at Royal Aberdeen last week. Part of me was disappointed I wasn’t there.”
