Like the Claret Jug at The Open, the winner is not presented with the original trophy. The real trophy is preserved at the USGA Museum in New Jersey, so the winner receives a full-size replica for his 12 months as champion and then will be handed a smaller replica for their trophy cabinet.
Gold medal
The replica trophy is accompanied by a shiny, coveted gold medal. It has been tradition in America’s national championship for the winner to receive the gold medal since 1985. And the medal was redesigned in honour of four-time winner Jack Nicklaus, with the Golden Bear’s iconic swing engraved into the award.
