Tiger Woods has hit back at the rumours that have circulated since his much documented crash on Friday morning – claiming that the situation was his fault and his wife Elin was the first person to help him.

The World No.1’s car reportedly hit a fire hydrant and tree as he left his driveway at 2.25am local time. His wife Elin told police she used a golf club to smash out the back window of the star’s Cadillac, pulled him out before lying him on the street where police officers found Woods drifting in and out of consciousness.

Woods The incident occurred just days after America’s National Enquiry printed a story alleging Woods was having an affair with New York socialite Rachel Uchitel, though police have said they are treating the crash as a traffic accident – not a domestic incident, and alcohol is said not to have been involved.

In a statement released on Sunday, Woods hit out at rumours, branding them ‘absolutely false’ and ‘irresponsible’, although did not directly address the affair allegations.

Meanwhile, the 14-time major winner has delayed police interviews about the incident three times, the first coming the evening after the accident, when Elin told troopers her husband was asleep. His agent, Mark Steinberg, then ruled out police contact on Saturday as the couple were ‘unavailable’ before lawyer Mark Nejame allegedly informed FHP officers Woods would not meet with them on Sunday.
