• Quadruple-bogey at the last seals horror day for Woods
• Tiger set to play on his own in final round
For the second time this year, Tiger Woods has carded his worst-ever round as a professional.
The former world No.1, now ranked a lowly 172nd, carded a 13-over-par 85 in the third round of The Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, Ohio.
He found the water four times, hit only seven fairways, reached nine greens in regulation and missed three putts from inside five feet.
That’s three shots more than his previous worst score, an 82 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open just over four months ago.
Woods, a five-time winner of the Memorial, most recently in 2012, had six bogeys, two double-bogeys and an ugly quadruple in a calamitous, error-strewn 18 holes, during which he found the water four times, hit only seven fairways, reached nine greens in regulation and missed three putts from inside five feet.
At the time he finished his round, he was eight shots adrift of his nearest competitor at the foot of the leaderboard and staring at the ignominy of playing on his own on Sunday.
By comparison, Woods’ playing partner in the third round, 24-year PGA Tour rookie Zac Blair, outscored him by 15 shots.
Afterwards, 14-time major winner Tiger declined to speak to on-site media.

Today’s round was only the third time he failed to break 80 in his professional career and was the first time he shot 40 or worse on both nines in a round (42, 43) – hardly the form of a player who holds the career scoring average record in the Memorial.
After this week, Tiger Woods’ next scheduled tournament is the US Open, which gets takes place at Chambers Bay in just under a fortnight.
However, given his current form, questions will surely be asked over whether or not he will take his place in the field for what is widely considered the toughest test in golf.
