Tiger Woods suffered “one of the most embarrassing moments” of his career in a surprise blunder during his latest TGL showing.

On Tuesday night, Woods’ Jupiter Links team were beaten 10-3 by New York Golf Club in the indoor simulator league which he helped launch earlier this year.

But the flashpoint of the evening came on the 13th hole, when Woods left himself 199 yards to the hole after his tee shot. The 15-time major champion heard his caddie say “99”, with caddies known to drop the first number on yardages when it appears obvious.

In a bizarre moment though, Woods took out wedge and struck his shot 99 yards, leaving him 100 yards short of the virtual pin.  Woods looked incredulous as he sought out his caddie over the mix-up, while his teammates Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim were left in fits of laughter.

“One of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career just happened,” Woods said on the broadcast. “I just screwed up. That was embarrassing.”

Woods ended up losing the hole to Cameron Young as his Jupiter team were dominated by the strong New York outfit also including Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick.

The 49-year-old was playing golf for the first time since he announced his mother Kultida had died on February 4.

He pulled out of last week’s Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, but was in the CBS commentary box on Sunday on duty as the tournament’s host.

“It has been a tough process to go through, but I’ve had amazing family support,” Woods said. “All the players have reached out that were playing here this week. The amount of texts and the emails and nice messages of support I got has really helped and has really meant a lot to me.

“She was my rock, you know? She meant everything to me. Losing her has been a very hard and difficult process to go through.”
