Tiger Woods and Jay Monahan took part in a “constructive working session” with President Donald Trump at the White House as plans accelerated to unite golf.
Woods, his fellow PGA Tour board member Adam Scott and the commissioner Monahan met LIV chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan in a meeting hosted by Trump at Washington DC on Thursday.
Reunification talks have been ongoing ever since a ‘framework agreement’ was announced between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) in June 2023, but Trump’s intervention is being viewed as critical in expediting a stalling deal.
The PGA Tour’s merger with the PIF – the sole backers of LIV – is being scrutinised by the US Department of Justice on anticompetition grounds, but Trump yields significant influence which could help give the deal the green light.

“We have just concluded a constructive working session at the White House with President Trump and his excellency Yasir Al-Rumayyan,” a statement from Monahan, Woods and Scott read.
“Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, we have initiated a discussion about the reunification of golf. We are committed to moving as quickly as possible and will share additional details as appropriate.
“We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world playing together more often and are committed to doing all we can to deliver that outcome for our fans.”

The statement matched the optimism Woods had shown when speaking about the deal at the Genesis Invitational on Sunday.
“I think that things are going to heal quickly,” the 15-time major champion said on the CBS broadcast.
“We’re going to get this game going in the right direction. It’s been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years. The fans want all the top players playing together and we’re going to make that happen.”
