If you’re watching the final round of the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, you might notice that the players are wearing a red pin on their baseball caps.
This is in tribute to Tiger Woods’ late mother Tida, who passed away suddenly a fortnight ago.
The story behind the tribute was outlined by TGR Live, 15-time major champion Woods’ event management company, which stages the Genesis Invitational.
In a post on social media, it explained that the red pin features “the Thai symbol for love” in tribute to Thailand-born Tida.

“Tida told Tiger that red was his power color, a belief that became the foundation of his signature Sunday look,” added the account.
Tida Woods died earlier this month. Her passing was confirmed by Tiger, who described her as “a force of nature all her own” whose “spirit was simply undeniable”.
“She was quick with the needle and a laugh,” added Woods. “She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

Woods had indicated his intention to play in the Genesis, which would have been his first start on the PGA Tour since The Open at Royal Troon last July. It would also have been his first regular start on the circuit since the same event a year ago.
However, he announced his withdrawal days later.
“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” said Woods. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.”
The former world No.1 is on-site at Torrey Pines for the final round. He was pictured embracing fellow players, including Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, on the range.
