TIGER WOODS

Only if you weren’t on planet Earth yesterday would you not have known that Tiger Woods is coming back.

In a statement released on his website, the 14-time major winner announced that he ‘hopes’ to be at the Safeway Open from October 13-16, before playing on the European Tour in Turkey the following month.

“I missed the buzz that he creates at tournaments” – Rory McIlroy

Naturally, a wave of euphoria surrounded Woods’ return – but it wasn’t just from fans.

“I think I missed the buzz that he creates at tournaments,” said Rory McIlroy. “He brings an aura and an atmosphere to a tournament that no one else in golf can bring.  It’s good to see him back and healthy and it will be exciting to see him back on the course again.”

World No.1 Jason Day added: “It’s great. I’m looking forward to seeing him play again, seeing what the state of his game is. I’ll be watching those tournaments and seeing how his body holds up and how the mental side and obviously the golf side of things hold up as well.”

Meanwhile, there was also huge reaction on social media. First up, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player paid tribute to Woods.

As did Thomas Bjorn, who finished runner-up to Woods at the 2000 Open Championship.

The Dane’s fellow European Tour pros Pablo Larrazabal and Richie Ramsay highlighted the positive impact of Woods agreeing to play the Turkish Airlines Open in November.

While PGA Tour pro Steven Bowditch (a great follow on Twitter, if you don’t already) made his big Safeway Open announcement.

But, joking aside…
