Boo Weekley is officially one of us.

Of course, not everyone has three PGA Tour wins or a Ryder Cup to their name, but there will be one similarity this week.

The 51-year-old, set to tee off in the Shaw Charity Classic on the Champions Tour, has arrived in Canada without his suitcase after yet another luggage disaster.

And in true Weekley fashion, he brushed it off as the next part of an already ‘adventurous year’.

“We’ve rented a U-Haul and then lost my luggage in a couple other places,” he said. “And, you know, another week of losing luggage.

“They don’t know where it is, and it was WestJet that lost it. We flew straight from Seattle to Calgary and, somehow, in a two-hour flight, we have lost my luggage.”

So, that’s when he took matters into his own hands.

Instead of being kitted out in the latest gear, sponsors intact, Weekley was forced to make a dash to Walmart and will now wear clothes from the supermarket’s golf section.

We’ll let him explain the rest.

“I went to Walmart today and bought me some Ben Hogan clothes,” he said.

“And I picked it out myself, so I thought I did a pretty good job of [making] a fashion statement, as I am.

“I’m not like Larry the Cable Guy, you know, he still wears the shirts and stuff, he has his own fashion. I don’t think they’d allow that out here if I was playing like that.

“I’d prefer to play in a t-shirt, but whatever. But I got some clothes from Walmart, which is fine, I ain’t no better than anybody else. That’s just the way life is.

“I got me a Ben Hogan shirt; some Ben Hogan shorts – and these things are nice. These ain’t like swim trunks, dude, stretchy for a fat guy like me, just a fat guy like me.”

We’ll need to check the history books on this one, but it’s likely Weekley would be the first man Walmart athlete to win on tour.

Over to you, Boo.
