There will be one less US Open contender at Oakmont for Sunday’s final round.

Sam Burns leads the way in Pennsylvania, while JJ Spaun and Adam Scott sit one shot behind the American.

Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland is well in the mix at –1 and LIV Golf’s Carlos Ortiz is a further shot adrift.

But pressing the leaders won’t be Corey Conners, who has been forced to WD on the eve of the curtain closer.

The Canadia was due to tee it up alongside Ryan Fox this afternoon but has ruled himself out with a recurring wrist injury.

Conners requested medical attention during the third round of the US Open after picking up the injury earlier in the week.

He had initially hurt his wrist while playing a bunker shot, seemingly striking a hidden TV cable in the process.

Michael Kim, his playing partner on Saturday, shared details of how Conners battled on despite being in some noticeable pain.

“Corey Conners deserves a full page on his own today,” Kim wrote on X.

“The dude STRIPES it. Little draw, didn’t miss a shot on the front nine and he missed a short one on 3 so could have been even lower. Pretty easy 3-under.

“But then he plugged his bunker shot and while trying to hit out of it, hurt his wrist. He was obviously in some pain as soon as he hit it and I didn’t think he’d play more honestly.

“It took like 20minutes for his physio to get to the green (don’t get me started on that terrible process). He gutted it out but was def out of rhythm coming in.”

At the time, Conners was inside the top-15 and well in the hunt at the third men’s major of the year. He went out in just 32 shots.

However, on the eve of the final round, the two-time PGA Tour winner was eight-over-par and sitting at T39 on the leaderboard.

The last group, made up of Burns and Scott, will head out at 7.15pm (BST).
