Walker Cup-1
THE WALKER CUP

The US Walker Cup team were greeted by a Scottish legend just hours after touching down at Manchester Airport on Saturday.

John ‘Spider’ Miller’s men headed straight for Hillside Golf Club after arriving on UK soil and had a chance encounter with Scotland and Liverpool hero Kenny Dalglish, a member of the Merseyside club, who coincidentally was heading up the 18th fairway at the time.

Reunited with the Walker Cup, which they won so convincingly 17-9 in New York in 2013, the Americans posed for pictures and spoke to Dalglish before heading out onto the course to begin their acclimatisation to links conditions in the UK.

“Playing in the Walker Cup is a great experience and our guys are thrilled to be here,” said captain Miller. “We have a great team spirit and look forward to playing the match at Royal Lytham & St Annes.”But that chance encounter with Dalglish wasn’t the end of the team’s association with Liverpool FC after they went on a tour of Anfield on Sunday.

Ex-Liverpool player John Aldridge tweeted:
