Police are on the hunt for vandals who caused £10,000 worth of damage to a popular Scottish golf course last week.

Caird Park in Dundee – the municipal which was saved from closure earlier this year – has been besieged yet again.

Officers say that they were called on Thursday, July 11 after four people on a red quad bike and two motorbikes were spotted driving through and ripping up the course.

The “extensive damage” to the grass on a number of the parkland venue’s holes will cost at least five figures to repair.

Police Scotland Tayside Constable Nikki Fotheringham said: “Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused to the golf course and enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible.

“We are appealing for anyone who was on the course, or in the surrounding area, at the time who may have noticed people riding a red quad bike and two motorcycles to please get in touch.”

This is not the first time Caird Park has been under attack by hooligans.

Back in April, greenkeepers were forced to close five greens after youths on motorcycles wreaked havoc on Dundee’s last remaining public course.

“Even though it’s the same bikers every week the police have done nothing,” a source told bunkered.co.uk four months ago.

“The course is on parkland so there are numerous ways onto the course but no-one’s done anything to stop cars, quads or bikes gaining access.”

Dundee City Council had earmarked Caird Park for closure earlier this year, but backtracked after a furious fallout and promised to keep the course open for at least another 12 months.

Police are urging “anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 2888 of Thursday, 11 July, 2024.”
